Advisory Board
Ron Vermeulen, P. Land, Founder (retired)
Ron Vermeulen founded LandSolutions in 2000 with a clear vision for the company. One where a noticeably different working culture and approach to business created sustainable long-term results for clients. He dedicated his 30+ year career to the land and public involvement in the energy sector. This commitment to the sector ignited his vision for a land company to operate with more impact as he worked his way up through the ranks at exportation and production (E&P) companies, in both surface land, public involvement, and joint interest. This company is LandSolutions as we know it today.
During his career, Ron was actively involved in many committees and Board positions while also providing guest instruction at Olds College, the University of Calgary, SAIT, Mount Royal College, as well as several industry-related educational initiatives. Ron still actively contributes as a member of our board along with offering his time and energy to numerous charitable and community-based organizations. Ron has his Professional Land Designation (P. Land) - 1996, is a Life Member of CAPL (Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen), Honorary Life Member of CAPLA (Canadian Association of Petroleum Land Administration), CAPL Merit Award Recipient, and CAPL Herb Hughes Memorial Award Recipient.
Richard ‘Dick’ Pinder, B.Comm, CA, ICD.D (retired), Board Chair
Mr. Richard ‘Dick’ Pinder brings governance experience in both public and private companies in the energy industry, technology, manufacturing, and real-estate sectors, along with an entrepreneurial spirit. He’s experienced as a former CEO of a substantial regional company and offers leadership, strategic, and financial expertise. He has been a trusted advisor to private company CEOs, as well as an investor in early-stage and mature companies with growth strategies. His skill set assists LandSolutions in executing our strong vision with a sustainable path to keep us at the forefront of the industry. Mr. Pinder’s past governance experience includes service with several not-for-profit organizations, including the Chair of a hospital foundation. He received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan, as well as the Chartered Accountancy designation from Alberta. He completed the Directors’ Education Program of the ICD in 2012 and then served several times as Director-in-Residence in ICD programs in Calgary.
David Collyer, B. Sc., MBA, P. Eng., Board Member
David Collyer is a big-picture thinker who brings critical insights to LandSolutions’ boardroom table. His experience within the Canadian energy industry brings a clear understanding of the complex external environment within the land industry. His experience in some of the highest positions of leadership allows him to offer a common-sense approach to his advisory capacity – an approach that our clients benefit from. As the past President and Country Chair for Shell in Canada, Mr. Collyer holds a broad range of technical, business, marketing, and senior leadership roles. Outside of his Board Member advisory role with LandSolutions, he is a member of several not-for-profits and corporate boards, providing energy-related consulting services. Underscoring his experience is his education: BSc, P.Eng., Mineral Engineering, specializing in petroleum (1977) from the University of Alberta; MBA, University of Alberta (1978); Member of Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA); and Member of the Board of Directors for AltaLink and Canexus.
Brent Leftwich, President, Leftwich Management Inc.
Brent Leftwich has an extensive business background and as Founder of Contract Land Staff (CLS), led the company in its growth and advancement in the Right of Way industry from 1985 until 2017, having sold the company twice to equity firms. Brent’s Land Management and Right of Way experience includes 40 years of service to the oil and gas, renewable energy, real estate, pipeline, utility, transportation, and telecommunication industries. Over the 32 years he led CLS, he transformed his one-man operation into one of North America’s largest independent Right of Way and Land Management companies.
